To better reach and serve Syrian refugee customers, Turkcell has invested in expanded infrastructure in areas populated by refugees (becoming the first mobile operator in Turkey set up infrastructure in refugee camps) and better Arabic-language communication (employing Arabic-speaking representatives in its major stores and opening Turkey’s first Turkish-Arabic bilingual call center). Turkcell today is the number one mobile service operator for refugees, serving 1.9 million Syrian refugee customers.

Other

Turkcell created a mobile app, Hello Hope or Merhaba Umut, to improve communication between Syrian refugees and the local population in Turkey. The app, which provides digital Arabic-to-Turkish and Turkish-to-Arabic translation, Turkish language education, daily news, and other useful information, has almost 1 million downloads to-date and 20,000 active users weekly.

Turkcell established a technology center, in a camp hosting 25,000 refugees in Kahramanmaraş in southern Turkey, to provide refugee children with access to high-speed internet and technological devices.
