PRESS RELEASE: Tent Partnership for Refugees Expands Americas Footprint With New Hires in North America

December 15, 2022 The Tent Partnership for Refugees (Tent) – a global network of more than 300 companies committed to economically integrating refugees – is pleased to announce its expanded footprint in North America with new country directors in Mexico and Canada. These new hires join Tent’s growing network of directors across the Americas and Europe, collectively bolstering the organization’s ability to support domestic and multinational companies around the world in their efforts to hire, train, and mentor refugees.

Tent’s new country directors are:

  • Gerardo Ancira, Director for Mexico, who joins Tent from the National Chamber for Wine & Spirits, where he oversaw nationwide campaigns, industry research and lobbying efforts, and CSR strategy as the organization’s General Manager. Prior to that, he served in a variety of leadership roles in corporate communications and public affairs at major companies including Mars, Santander Bank, Diageo, and Alcatel.
  • Sophie Jama Malindi, Director for Canada, who joins Tent from TruVoice Solutions, a tech platform she founded to empower marginalized groups by fostering meaningful and inclusive engagement between employees and employers. Previously, she served as a long-time Program Manager as well as Acting Chief of Programme Services at UNICEF,  was a Program Officer at UNAIDS, and featured as a TEDx speaker on giving a voice to marginalized communities.

“Since the Tent Partnership for Refugees was founded by Hamdi Ulukaya in 2016, our network of companies around the world pledging to help refugees find work and thrive in their new communities has increased exponentially – especially as the refugee crisis continues to reach unprecedented heights,” said Gideon Maltz, Executive Director at Tent. “We’re thrilled to welcome Gerardo and Sophie to the Tent family, as they will strengthen our ability to support companies in their respective country in reducing the unique barriers refugees commonly face in order to hire, train, and mentor many more refugees.”

About the Tent Partnership for Refugees
With more and more refugees displaced for longer periods of time, businesses have a critical role to play in helping refugees integrate economically in their new host communities. The Tent Partnership for Refugees mobilizes the global business community to improve the lives and livelihoods of more than 36 million refugees who have been forcibly displaced from their home countries. Founded by Chobani’s founder and CEO Hamdi Ulukaya in 2016, we are a network of over 300 major companies committed to including refugees. Tent believes that companies can most sustainably support refugees by leveraging their core business operations and hiring, training, and mentoring refugees.
