PRESS RELEASE: Tent Partnership for Refugees Announces Promotion of Gideon Maltz to Chief Executive Officer

  • In elevated role, Maltz will lead Tent’s next phase of accelerated expansion and impact across the Americas and Europe

New York, December 16, 2022 The Tent Partnership for Refugees (Tent) – a global network of more than 300 companies committed to economically integrating refugees – is pleased to announce the promotion of Gideon Maltz from Executive Director to Chief Executive Officer.

Tent was founded in 2016 by Hamdi Ulukaya, founder and CEO of Chobani, with Maltz joining the organization as Executive Director in 2017. In the intervening years, the global refugee crisis has only grown more acute, most recently compounded by Afghanistan and Ukraine, as has the urgent need for businesses to help refugees integrate in their new communities.

From its start, Tent has led the charge in pushing businesses to go beyond philanthropy to leverage their unique capabilities to help refugees integrate into the workforce and their new communities – and has evolved into the preeminent global network of companies committed to hiring, training, and mentoring refugees. As global refugee numbers have continued to soar, and the need for business action has grown even more pressing, Ulukaya and Maltz have evolved Tent’s strategy in recent months to strengthen its leadership team, deepen its investment in key countries across Europe and the Americas, and hone its focus on connecting refugees to work.

In his new role as CEO, Maltz will lead Tent’s expanded footprint and oversee its continued growth and strategy across the Americas and Europe.

“Under Gideon’s exceptional leadership, unwavering vision, and persistence, Tent has made extraordinary progress in just a handful of years – encompassing a global network that is more than 300 companies strong, with a collective commitment to hire, train, and mentor tens of thousands of refugees around the world,” said Hamdi Ulukaya, founder of Tent and president of its executive board. “On behalf of Tent’s Board of Directors, I am proud to promote Gideon to CEO and am confident that in this elevated role, he and his growing team will take Tent’s impact to even greater heights as they persuade many more businesses to reduce employment barriers, provide economic opportunities for refugees, and pave the way for a brighter and more sustainable future.”

This announcement follows a number of recent promotions and new hirings to support Tent’s continued growth efforts alongside its long-time presence in the U.S., Netherlands, Germany including: newly-appointed Vice Presidents in the Americas and for Europe; Deputy Directors in the U.S., Europe, and Latin America; and country directors in France, Poland, Spain, Sweden, the UK, Mexico, and Canada.
